In the early 1900s, a farmer named Frans Saunamäki landed on the rugged island of Kaukassalo in Särkisalo, located on the border between Southwest Finland and Uusimaa. The ascetic island offered little in the way of comfort — but Frans had a vision. He recognized the potential of the low-lying island for agriculture.

With determination and the help of his son Toivo, Frans transformed the land into a flourishing and successful fruit orchard. A true oasis in the archipelago, with thousands of apple trees, was born.

Saunamäki Resort is located on the sheltered west coast of Kaukassalo island, near Finnarvik in Särkisalo. The location is ideal both for longer stays and holiday getaways. From Saunamäki, it’s just a 30-minute drive to nearby Salo, about an hour to Turku, and less than two hours to Helsinki.

No ferries are needed — the area is easily accessible by car. You can also arrive comfortably by boat, straight to your own pier and docking spot, of course.
